This project brief focused on creating a work & play environment within the building 20-26 Fargate. The design proposal aimed to ‘encourage human interaction and creativity' while creating a ‘cultural hub attracting families, students, residents, shoppers and tourists’.
Proposal:
Events Central will be transformed into a co-living, co-working experience where residents can benefit from support and guidence to turn their business ideas into reality. In today’s society, the cost of living has rapidly increased making it difficult for young people to find affordable housing and/or business premises in prime locations such as the highstreet. Therefore, Events Central will provide a cheaper foundation for growing and developing small businesses, while allowing individuals to gain greater independence.
Starting from the top of the building, there will be co-living spaces on the 3rd and 4th floor offering services such as laundry facilities and communal areas for organised events. The 2nd floor will be a co-working/workshop space dedicated to business start up and learning essential skills such finance and branding. The ground and 1st floor will occupy a market space and cafe for residents and small businesses to sell their products, and the basement will be an adaptable events space used by both the public and the residents.
With sustainability in mind, I would like the building to be designed using eco friendly materials that are easy to install such as timber so that the space can be changed as and when needed to suit future purposes. The concept will also add to the sustainablity of the building itself as residents can start at the top of the building where they will live, and then they can work and run their businesses in the market spaces until they gain enough experience that they no longer need to rely on the building anymore. This then allows for the cycle to start again and the building will continue to adapt and evolve for its future residents.
