CoLAB 2023
DESIGN FOR PLANET
A two week international collaboration between Sheffield Hallam and INTI International University students in Malaysia.
In a team of 5 Sheffield Hallam students and 3 INTI International students, we created a campaign raising awareness around developing a net zero society. This included a series of striking posters, an informative website and video animations to be projected onto the side of buildings.
Proposal:
‘Net zero is the target of completely negating the amount of greenhouse gases produced by human activity.’
‘OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND’ is a campaign dedicated to creating a net zero society. This international collaboration with between Kuala Lumpur and Sheffield highlights how our communities are blind to the consequences that our actions have on the world. By exposing the harsh truth of our environmental state, we hope to encourage people to make small changes that can have big impacts.

A series of visuals created by the international team:

These visuals show the potential of a global campaign where the images are displayed in prime locations around the world. Here the posters have been edited onto billboards in the shopping district of Kuala Lumpur, and on the sides of buildings near the Petronas Twin Towers.
Alongside the posters and website we also presented the idea of video animations that could be projected onto the sides of buildings. The idea is that the visuals grow throughout the day until the side of the building is completely covered. For instance, the smoke visual would gradually spread throughout the day to grab the attention of people walking by on the street. On their morning commute past the building, there may be very little smoke but by the end of the day the building could be completely engulfed. This concept helps to give a sense of scale to the issue and emphasises the urgency to act now as a community.
